Simon Ainley - Tennis Director
Simon grew up playing tennis at The West Hants Club, a multi-sport club in the South of England where he began his tennis career developing into a national level junior. He moved to North Wales where he trained full time competing in senior events before deciding on a career in coaching. He first worked as a club coach, progressing to become Welsh regional and national coach overseeing the development of leading Welsh tennis players.
He subsequently worked as a national coach for the Lawn Tennis Association, during which time he developed a keen interest in coach education.
In 2006 Simon took up a position as performance manager at Chiswick, Riverside where over 9 years he built and managed a coaching team to deliver a programme that was widely recognised, by peers and the LTA, as a leading example of best practice throughout the country. Players graduating from this programme have gone on to represent Great Britain at the Commonwealth Games, Fed Cup and junior grand slams.
Ross Sheppard - Head of Adult Coaching
Georgie Gent - Junior Coach is an LTA Licensed Level 3 Coach
Georgie joined the Wimbledon Club coaching team in 2013 whilst recovering from an injury which has interrupted her successful professional tennis career.
As a player she reached a career high WTA singles ranking of 178 (no. 5 in Great Britain) winning two ITF singles and two ITF doubles titles along the way. Georgie has competed at all 4 grand slams and came close to causing a major upset at Wimbledon in 2009 when she narrowly lost to world no.7 Vera Zvonareva in three sets. That same year she reached the second round of the Wimbledon doubles draw (partnering Laura Robson) bowing out in a close contest against grand slam champions Amelie Mauresmo and Svetlana Kuznetsova.
Despite injury currently preventing her from competing at the highest level of the game Georgie retains her love for tennis and has embarked upon a coaching career, enjoying working with players of all ages and abilities. Her infectious enthusiasm is irrepressible (as anyone who has spent 5 minutes with her will testify!) and she can found on court coaching all areas of the club membership and leading the Junior development programme.
